Mira's Blue Key
Mira was a young apprentice witch. Her hat was soft and crooked. She lived by a lake that glittered in the moonlight. One evening, she found a key on the beach. It was as blue as the sky after rain and shimmered faintly.
The key hummed in her hand, sounding like a purring cat. Krumelur, her striped cat, rubbed against her legs and meowed. The owl Ull blinked from a branch and hooted gently. Ull’s feathers were fluffy like clouds.
Mira held up the key. A soft chime emanated from it. The tone pointed like an arrow, almost saying, "Follow me!" Mira nodded, then took her small bag and a flashlight. They walked through the garden, which smelled of mint and apple.
The path was soft with moss, like a green cushion under their feet. The wind whispered between the leaves. Krumelur went first, her tail curled like a question mark. The owl Ull flew above, keeping watch.
Suddenly, they saw a silvery band in the air, like a thread of light. The thread led to a big oak tree. Set into its trunk was a small door. The door seemed to be sleeping, and its lock looked like a tiny moon.
The key became warm in Mira's hand. She whispered a kind rhyme: "Bim bam blue, little door, wake up now." The door yawned, opening with a click that sounded like a kiss.
Inside waited the Dream Chamber. The air smelled of vanilla and night. Jars floated in neat rows, holding pictures, songs, and small laughs. One glowing word spelled 'calm,' meaning feeling safe and still. Another word was 'courage,' for daring even when a little scared.
A small figure came forward. It was Mr. Glimmer, wearing a coat of stardust. Thank you, he said. A lullaby has gone missing. It's for a child with a teddy bear named Snuff. Can you help me?
Mira listened carefully. Behind a shelf, she heard a quiet sniffle. There fluttered a butterfly made of tone, blue and trembling. Mira reached out her hand and said soft words. Soft words, she knew, were words that hug. The butterfly landed and transformed into a melody.
Together, they carried the melody to the right jar. On it was a small label that said Snuff. Mira sang a little tune and gently placed the melody inside. The jar glowed. Mr. Glimmer smiled and gave Mira a talisman – a lucky charm, a little star to hang over her bed.
When they went out, the door fell asleep again. The key stopped humming and grew cool. It wanted to stay with Mira now; it had chosen her. Krumelur purred. The owl Ull hooted a soft good night.
At home, Mira crawled into her bed. She hung the star, and it glowed softly. The wind whispered good night. The lake shimmered still. Mira smiled. She knew now that curiosity and kindness open secret doors, and that even a small voice can comfort a big night.
She closed her eyes. Krumelur lay down by her feet. The owl kept watch at the window. The Dream Chamber was safe. And somewhere, far away, Snuff fell asleep to Mira’s blue lullaby.
