Mira and Botti

Mira loves to build. Her grandmother has a small workshop. It smells of wood and warm metal. On shelves lie screws, wheels, and buttons. Mira listens to the soft humming from an old computer. She feels brave and curious.

In a blue box she finds blinking LEDs, a screen, and two small antennae. She carefully screws the parts together. She puts wheels under a small plate. She attaches the screen like a smiling face. The little robot wakes up. Beep beep, says the robot. "I'll call you Botti," Mira says, patting the chassis—its hard body.

Mira connects a battery box. A battery gives the robot its energy. She opens the computer and writes simple code. To program means to give clear steps. Like a recipe list: do this, then do that. She writes over and over, until Botti rolls smoothly.

Botti has sensors. A sensor is like a little eye or a little nose. It can sense light, sound, or smell. Mira tapes a blue card on the floor. "Follow blue," she says. Botti lights up with its LED and finds the right way. The screen shows a happy mouth.

Evening comes. The wind rustles outside. The lights flicker and go out for a while. It gets dark in the rooms. The neighbor Leo knocks and whispers. "My teddy is gone. Teddy Star is gone, and I can't sleep."

Mira nods. "We'll help you," she says. Botti rolls forward and turns on a soft, blue light. Their light doesn't distract sleeping eyes. They listen. They walk calmly through the hall. Botti uses a sound sensor and hears a little rustling. The sensor shows a small arrow on the screen.

In the laundry room it smells of soap and warm fabric. The warmth is like a blanket. Botti stops by the laundry basket. He beeps kindly, "Beep beep." Mira lifts a pile of socks. There lies Teddy Star, soft and cuddly. Leo's eyes sparkle. He hugs the teddy tight.

The screen on Botti shows a star. A star means mission complete. "Good teamwork," Mira says. Teamwork means helping each other. Leo thanks them. He goes home and crawls into his bed.

The power comes back. The lights turn on again. But everything is already calm. The darkness doesn't hurt. It becomes a chance to be brave and smart.

Botti yawns with a little beep. The battery blinks yellow. Yellow means rest and charging. To charge means to fill up with energy. Mira plugs in the cord carefully. She strokes Botti over the antennae.

Grandma looks in and smiles. "What a kind invention," she says. An invention is a smart idea that becomes something real. Mira nods. "Technology is a friend," she says. Technology helps when the heart is kind.

Mira closes the computer lid gently. She silences all beeps and hums. The night is still. The stars blink like small LEDs in the sky.

"Good night, Botti," Mira whispers. "Good night, workshop. Good night, little town." Botti blinks one last time. Beep beep, sleep well.
